  • Yes, I work with international clients! While my supplement dispensary ships only within Canada and the USA, I can still make recommendations—you will just need to source them locally. Since much of my approach is rooted in daily habits and lifestyle changes, you can still achieve great results, no matter where you live.   • When you change your diet before addressing constipation, it can actually make your symptoms worse. This is because when you eat more plants and fiber, your body produces more gas. If you are still constipated, the gas gets trapped behind backed-up stool and slows your gut down even more. Then you end up feeling 10X bloated with even worse constipation.

    Inside the 12-week container, we will definitely look at addressing your diet for more positive changes; however, we typically start with lifestyle, habits, and motility agents to get you pooping every day first. Once you’re going every day, we’ll look at addressing diet so that you can maintain your results long-term.

  • I provide my clients with recipe and meal recommendations, but I do not typically provide meal plans. The end goal for all of my clients is that they understand how to build a balanced meal on their own and can find recipes to adapt and fit their gut health needs.

    Meal plans can lead to rigid habits that do not allow for flexibility in real life, and I find clients may become lost once they’re not following them. Sustainable habits are the name of the game when it comes to my coaching practice, and I want you to feel confident to plan your meals according to your lifestyle, not to be stuck following the same meal plan week after week.

    That being said, if you really want a meal plan, I do offer it as an add-on to my 1:1 coaching plans for an additional cost.

  • It might be helpful to reduce or remove certain foods that trigger constipation for a couple months, but I do not promote elimination diets or super restrictive diets like low FODMAP, anti-fungal, AIP, or keto. The end goal is to re-introduce as many foods as possible so you have more variety in your diet.

  • If you struggle with chronic constipation, it’s likely I will recommend short-term use of a laxative or motility agent, such as magnesium, to kickstart your gut and get it into a regular rhythm where you are pooping every day. It’s difficult to successfully implement dietary strategies when your colon is backed up, as this usually makes symptoms worse.

    Recommendations will depend on your needs, but the end goal is that you will be able to have regular, predictable bowel movements without relying on laxatives for the rest of your life.

    Think of it this way: your gut is a muscle, and it needs regular "workouts" to stay strong and function well. Strong muscles help with regular bowel movements, just like strong legs help with running. Constipation is like when you stop going to the gym regularly and your muscles become weak and sluggish.

    Using a laxative or motility agent is like hiring a personal trainer to maximize your workouts and get your gut into shape. With time and consistency, you are pooping every day and you can start AND finish your day with a flat belly. Just like you don’t need a personal trainer for the rest of your life, you don’t need laxatives either. They are simply a tool used to get your gut back into shape so you can enjoy more blissful bowel movements.

  • A motility agent is a drug, herb, or preparation that allows your stomach and intestines to work better by improving the strength or frequency of the muscle movements without disrupting their regular pattern. Examples of motility agents are magnesium, vitamin C, and ginger.

    Laxatives are slightly different from motility agents. They stimulate or facilitate emptying of the bowels. Not all laxatives are created equal. Some work by drawing water into the gut to make stool easier to pass while others irritate the lining of the colon to stimulate a bowel movement. In my practice, I do not use stimulant laxatives as these can make the colon lazy and cause laxative dependence.

  • Not all laxatives are created equal. Same goes for magnesium. One common mistake I see in my practice is that people use these agents as needed and then stop once they get symptom relief. My program is different because we use these agents as a tool to get your bowels back into a rhythm so your gut is eventually strong enough to allow for regular bowel movements every day. It’s very similar to hiring a personal trainer to strengthen your muscles at the gym. Laxatives and motility agents act like a “workout” for your gut. Eventually, once your muscles are strong enough, you no longer need these agents for regular bowel movements.

    Another common mistake is that people don’t get the dosing or timing right for their laxative or motility agent, and this leads them to believe that it isn’t working when all they need is a simple tweak. This is why my recommendations are based off of your unique history and symptoms. Inside The Empowered Gut Solution, I’ll have you do regular transit tests and keep a poop diary. The information this provides gives me plenty of information to be able to tailor a plan to your unique needs.
