MY STORY…
I struggled with IBS, constipation, SIBO, food sensitivities, unrelenting bloat, foul smelling gas, fatigue, exhaustion, muscle pain, and acne…
I thought the odds were stacked against me and that my gut was beyond repair…
I grew up eating fast food 3+ nights a week… Wendy’s, McDonald’s, takeout Chinese…
The only vegetables I ate until I was 18 were carrots, corn, potatoes, and iceberg lettuce.
I was given antibiotics at a young age for viral infections.
I started birth control at 15 years old for acne, followed by MONTHS of antibiotics. (My doctor told me my acne had nothing to do with my diet 🤨.)
In university, I adopted a “sleep when I’m dead” mentality, I partied and binge drank on weekends.
After graduation, I worked 12-hour night shifts and drank coffee like it was going out of style. I was sleep deprived, operating on cortisol and adrenaline most days, and feeling BURNT OUT.
I had a LOT of cards stacked against me and my gut.
And, I thought I had tried EVERYTHING for my gut, too…
I spent years doing all the “right” things… but the fiber, water, and exercise didn’t work like it was supposed to. And, I wasn’t okay with relying on laxatives to go to the bathroom every day. Or sticking to a regimented diet that didn’t leave any flexibility to go out with friends or actually enjoy what I was eating. I didn’t want a carry-on full of supplements anytime I travelled.
I didn’t get to where I am today by following a crazy elimination diet, by “killing the SIBO”, or taking 10+ different supplements every day.
One of the BIGGEST realizations that led to healing my gut was understanding that the actions I take every day add up over time. My daily habits matter. Whether those habits lead to positive or negative results depends on the action.
